Teens: Ages 15 - 16

Before participating in any behind-the-wheel instruction at EXCEL, students must have a Driver Education Learner Permit from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).

To obtain your Learner Permit at the BMV, you must:

  1. Be at least 15 years of age and have a social security card.
  2. Show proof of enrollment at EXCEL by presenting your Certificate of Enrollment (CDE). We will send you this once your enrollment is confirmed. You will not be issued a Permit more than 21 days before your classroom instruction begins.
  3. Provide proof of identify by showing a photo ID or your high school yearbook with your photo and a document with your signature.
  4. Show the original or certified copy of your birth certificate.
  5. Pass a standard vision screening test.
  6. Have an adult sign a financial responsibility agreement.
  7. Pay $9 to cover the cost of the Permit.
